Ocelot

Ocelots are jungle cats. They are about twice as big as a house cat, and on the smaller side of the big cats. They have a gray to reddish brown coat with black rosettes spots and some stripes. They have round ears and a sleek coat. Ocelots live from Mexico to Central America to South America. Ocelots live for 7 to 10 years in the wild.

Ocelots are nocturnal and will hunt at night. They have very good eyesight and are able to see in the dark. They also have good hearing and these things allow them to stalk their prey successfully. Ocelots will mostly prey on rodents, but will also eat reptiles, birds, and fish.

Mother ocelots give birth to one kitten and occasionally 2 to 3 kittens. The kittens will stay with their mothers for 2 years. Ocelots are very territorial, they can swim very well and will rest in trees.

Ocelots are listed as least concern, their general population is stable. There are still poachers hunting for the ocelot's fine coat, and their habitat is being taken away by humans.
